And, the experts at Root’s Nurseries are here to help! Our Millersville area landscaper can not only help you plan out a design for implementation come spring but even help you prepare your current landscaping for the cold months ahead. By planning now, you can get ahead of the game and as soon as the weather warms up you’ll be ready to implement! Here are a few tips from our professional landscaper to help you care for your current landscape this winter while preparing for your new one come spring:
Be sure to properly trim your plants and shrubs to get the most out of them. The first thing you want to do to get your perennials ready for winter is to cut back the dry stems to the soil level. Cut any parts that are brown and dead so the new growth has room to grow. Those that are dormant over the winter should be manicured so they look great and are ready to grow once the weather begins to warm. Evergreens are a great plant choice for all seasons as they stay green all year round.
When snow builds up on tree branches, it can cause them to break. Take a few minutes to go from tree to tree and knock the snow off of the branches. Start at the bottom and work your way up. That way, the snow you knock off the top branches won’t add to the snow that is already on the bottom branches. If your trees are covered in ice, leave them alone and allow the ice to melt on its own.
Gardening and landscaping prep should begin while the weather’s cold. Work with your landscaper to plan where you want new flowers and flowerbeds to go.
Look at how your current flower beds are shaped. If they are all just straight lines, consider adding curves to the edges, or putting in boulders to help break up the flat lines. A landscaper at Root’s Nurseries can help you design a landscape that is more aesthetically pleasing and utilizes the natural hills and valleys of your landscape.
